VISION

Our vision is to enable students to learn, develop, grow and fulfill their potential in an international environment, which is student centered, safe, nurturing and rich with opportunities to learn.

OVERVIEW

Founded in 1951, Stockholm International School is here to serve the children of the international community as well as Swedish citizens looking for an international education. The school is an independent, open-admission, co-educational Kindergarten to 12 day school governed by a Board of Trustees. All instruction is in English. The educational program is modeled after the International Baccalaureate guidelines. The school year is mid-August to mid-June and has a minimal instructional period of 180 days divided into two semesters. The school has enjoyed strong academic success and is going through a stage of rapid expansion.

FACILITIES

Stockholm International School is located in the centre of Stockholm next to a park, on a hilltop near the main business/shopping area. The main campus has 7 levels with classrooms, science laboratories, information technology rooms, an auditorium, cafeteria, gymnasium and specialist rooms for art, music and drama. Classes are small with 20 being the maximum for Grade 3 upward. Senior students are located in an annexe a few minutes walk from the main campus. This newly renovated space has classrooms, an I.T. room and cafeteria. Both facilities have easy access to public transport, a wide range of museums, parks, historical sites and other resources to enrich the educational experience of students.

STUDENTS, FACULTY AND CURRICULUM

The student body is 440 representing 53 nationalities (including a portion of Swedish students). The teaching faculty of 70 teachers represent 17 nationalities.

The International Primary Curriculum (IPC), the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the IB Diploma form the basis of the school's academic mission. All three programs are inquiry based methodologies designed to meet the individual needs of an exceptionally diverse student body. Stockholm International School recognises that the curriculum must address not only academic learning but also guarantee the development of all key learning processes. In addition, we recognise that social and personal skills are central to effective learning and development. To this end we use a three part curriculum model.

Academic: Represented by the IPC, MYP* and IB Diploma.

* Stockholm International School is a candidate school for the Middle Years Programme. this school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. These are schools that share a common philosophy - a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that Stockholm International School believes is important for our students.

Process: Ensuring that all students are prepared as learners in all learning processes that are independent of subjects (reading, writing, use of information technology, research).

Social and Personal: The school supports the socialising process for all students, promoting a values education and placing this in the context of being a global citizen.
