Over the last two months the Grade 10 Mathematics and Economics classes have been playing a Stock Exchange Game as part of a cross curriculum MYP unit. The game attracted a lot of interest around the school and finished with 106 members made up of teaching staff and students.
Each member started with $1000 USD on a virtual stock exchange with real time prices from the US Stock Exchange. The SIS Economics teacher Mr Boswell lead for the majority of competition but in the final week, a Grade 10 student Costantino (aka “Toothpick”) came from behind to win after accumulating a huge profit.
Of the 106 members only 8 ended the game in the black with a profit, 5 of them Students. These winning students ranged from Grade 5 and up and they have today received a cheque to take home to try to persuade their parents to cash it.
Overall this game has been a fantastic learning experience for all participants and big congratulations should go to everyone who tried their hand in a tough market.
